track width

Track width measures the distance from the wheel on one side to the wheel on the other. Learn how it can affect your RC car's handling here.

Setting track width on most car types

Track width measures the overall width of the car.  It is usually adjusted by using different wheel hexes (a.k.a. hubs) or using shims at the axle to push the wheel outward, but using different length suspension arms or changing the width of the suspension pivots will also affect track width.

Front track width

Wider front track

  • Less grip
  • Slower steering response

Narrower front track

  • More grip
  • Faster steering response

Rear track width

Wider rear track

  • More rear grip
  • More high-speed steering
  • Reduces traction roll

Narrower rear track

  • More grip in tight turns
  • Less high-speed steering
